If you're a specialized high-volume stamping house with zero flexibility, the calculus might be different. But if you have any ability to juggle small and large runs, I'd encourage you to look at the real ROI of being the supplier who takes the small call seriously.

Small orders in automotive stamping – whether it's a prototype die, a short run of CNC machined parts, or a low-volume aluminum extrusion – shouldn't be treated as second-class work. They test your agility, build customer loyalty, and often point to future growth. When I see a request for a automotive mold maker to produce just 20 units, I don't think "too small." I think "could be the start of something."
