There isn't one right answer for whether you should buy a Dayco radiator hose, order a serpentine belt kit, or pull out the ball joint removal tool yourself. It depends on how long you plan to keep the vehicle, what downtime costs you, and how comfortable you are with a wrench in your hand.

If the joint has been there for years in a salt-belt car, this can take a while. That's normal. Don't put a torch on the ball joint boot unless you know what you're doing; the grease burns and the boot catches fire. (Speaking from the smell, not recommend.)

How do you know which scenario you're in?

Ask yourself three questions:

  1. How long does this part need to last?
  2. What does a failure cost me—money, time, or safety?
  3. Do I have the tools and skill to do the job right?

If you need it to last years, buy the known brand. If you're fixing a car to sell or a van with a load in the back, buy the part that gets you there without a callback. And if you're learning, buy the full hardware kit and the right tool. That's the whole decision. Final check: TCO before the cart

When a listing says "OEM quality" or "direct fit," that's a claim, not a spec.
